Jesus wants to hear your voice: praying in your understanding

Hello everyone, thank you so much for clicking on my link. You are highly blessed and favored in Jesus name. Amen. So yes, I will ask you to subscribe, again and again, please click that button up there. Please and Thank you.  Welcome back to my blog this week where I will be talking about prayers. And yes like my graphic work for this week tells, Jesus wants to hear your voice. Relax, read and enjoy.

So what does prayer mean to you? To me, prayer is communicating with God and God talking back to me. It has never been and will never be a one-sided conversation (Hebrews 1:1-2). I believe you can talk to God about everything, even things that may seem “out of his jurisdiction”. What do I mean by out of his jurisdiction? Quick story: When I was a little girl my father taught us a lot about prayers and I always got annoyed because I believed my issues were not things to bother God about. I clearly remember reporting my mum to my dad when I was 7 years old and he said: “go on your knees and talk to God about it”. I was so furious, there I was telling my dad what my mum did and he was telling me to pray about it. I was like "Really daddy? Really? This is unbelievable". Then I stomped out of his room because he clearly was not helping my situation at that point in time. The older I got, the more I understand that prayers work for everything, even the minute things.

I really enjoy praying with people, it's like iron sharpening iron moments for me. I remember one relationship I was in a while back and I was the person always suggesting to pray and always the one praying. It got very frustrating because the kind of family I grew up in my father was the leader even in spiritual matters. We grew up doing devotions, praying before traveling, getting anointed before returning to school, all led by my father. In my sub-conscious, the person who is to lead the family spiritually was the man but here I was in a relationship where I had to carry the spiritual burden. I mean I was in love then (He was an amazing person) so I managed to deceive myself that I did not mind but I minded a lot. Having a prayer partner in your spouse is very beautiful, I believe it should make every believers list of what they are looking for in a life partner.

One thing about praying is that it is something you can forget to do very easily. I have done a couple of polls on my twitter and Instagram asking people if they prayed today. Each time I did the poll, about 20% of the respondents answered yes. I wouldn’t say my twitter and Instagram followership is the best picture of the population of the world but it clearly it tells a story. If you don’t create a culture of prayer you will forget to pray daily. I know many of us pray when something happens or when we are being led or when we feel like it but, prayer has to be more than that. It has to be a habit that eventually becomes a constant part of your life.

Praying in your understanding

I personally pray in tongues more than I pray in my understanding. They both have their advantages and they have 0 disadvantages. Prayers can never have disadvantages.

Seven types of prayers include:

  •  Prayer of supplication: This is the most popular prayer in my opinion, I may be wrong. But it is the prayer of making your needs known to God. God wants us to look to him for everything we want and need. Nothing is too big or small for God to do.
Philippians 4:6 (NIV) 6 Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.
  •  Prayer of adoration: This prayer concentrates on worshipping God and calling him beautiful names. I love it when God is called his names in different languages of the world.
Daniel 4:34 (NIV) At the end of that time, I, Nebuchadnezzar, raised my eyes toward heaven, and my sanity was restored. Then I praised the Most High; I honored and glorified him who lives forever.
  • Prayer of decree: This prayer focuses on enforcing God’s will in matters by command. This is taking charge of certain situations and asking that God’s will prevail over everything in that situation. Feel free to decree over your health, education, marriage etc and watch as it manifests.
Job 22:28 (KJV) Thou shalt also decree a thing, and it shall be established unto thee: and the light shall shine upon thy ways.
  •      Prayer of Thanksgiving: This is also very popular. This prayer is to appreciate God for the things he has done. I know some of us thank him for what he is doing and he will do as well. That is really good. Thanksgiving is very important.
Psalm 107:8-9 Let them give thanks to the Lord for his unfailing love and his wonderful deeds for mankind, 9 for he satisfies the thirsty and fills the hungry with good things.
  • Prayer of agreement: I love this prayer so much. Sometimes we go through stuff that we think is so heavy to carry alone. This is why we have the body of Christ, to pray and agree together on circumstances. When two or more believers pray together, it’s a prayer of agreement. When you have a burden, reach out to friends and join faith together in prayers.
Matthew 18:19-20 (ESV) Again I say to you, if two of you agree on earth about anything they ask, it will be done for them by my Father in heaven. 20 For where two or three are gathered in my name, there am I among them.”
  •   Prayer of intercession: This is when we pray for others. We have to pray for our parents, friends, partners, bosses (even the annoying ones), future spouse and children. It should not be overrated ever.
Ephesians 6:18 (NIV) And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people.
  •  Prayer of faith: This helps you target exactly what you want to see concerning a situation. Quick story: I remember a time I messed up big time at work and I knew it was most likely going to lead to my termination. Normally, I pray in tongues then I round up my prayers by praying in my understanding. But in this situation, I did not pray in tongues because I could not take losing my job. Chances were that it was God’s will for me to lose the job to put me through a growth process and praying in tongues is a way to pray God’s will for you. So I stayed on God’s word and prayed in my understanding. The result of the big meeting that was supposed to lead to my termination was exactly what I had said in my prayers. I remember asking God to fill the mouth of my opposition with air, I also asked him to make them speechless. After prayer, I had faith that my prayers were answered and stepped into the meeting with Godfidence. Everything turned out just as I asked to the glory of God.
Mark 11:22-23 (NIV) 22 “Have faith in God,” Jesus answered. 23 “Truly[a] I tell you, if anyone says to this mountain, ‘Go, throw yourself into the sea,’ and does not doubt in their heart but believes that what they say will happen, it will be done for them.

To wrap up this blog entry today, I want you to know that God has answered all our prayers as seen in 2 Corinthians 1:20 below. All we have to do is agree with his promises. We are not trying to convince God to hear us anymore, he has heard and answered because of Jesus. Jesus is the high priest that is always interceding for us in prayers (Hebrews 7:25).

2 Corinthians 1:20 (NLT) For all of God's promises have been fulfilled in Christ with a resounding "Yes!" And through Christ, our "Amen" (which means "Yes") ascends to God for his glory.

Thank you so much for reading to the very end. I hope this has encouraged you to start praying more. Jesus wants to hear your voice concerning any situation. The big, little and insignificant things matter to Jesus if it matters to you. Set up a daily routine to pray. Stick to it, make it and habit and eventually it becomes a part of your day you can’t do without. Talk to Jesus about everything and anything daily.

What does it mean to be complete in Christ?

What does it mean to be complete in Christ? When you look at yourself, what do you see? Do you see someone who is imperfect and lacking in many areas? Do you sometimes find yourself thinking these thoughts? God is angry with me. I’m too dirty and damaged for Him to accept me. Why would God want to be with me when I’m a hot mess. Let me give you a secret, it doesn't matter how you feel or what you think. All that matters is what God has said in His word. His word says you are Complete in Christ! You are whole! Nothing missing, nothing lost, nothing broken! This is not by your deeds or something you are on your own. This is because you're in Christ!  Are you in Christ? Colossians 2:9-10 (NKJV) For in Him dwells all the fullness of the Godhead [a]bodily; 10 and you are complete in Him, who is the head of all [b]principality and power. Colossians 2:9-10 (TPT) For he is the complete fullness of deity living in human form. 10 And our own completeness is now found in him . We are co

Do’s and Don’ts of a spiritual fast

Do’s and Don’ts of a spiritual fast  By Bibi Babatunde-Ikotun Hello, welcome to my blog. If you clicked on this link it’s either you’re fasting already or are planning to fast. The good thing is you’re planning to have an effective fast by seeking all the information you can get on this. I won’t waste much of your time and I’ll get into it. Don’ts of fasting -  Have a Transactional mindset : A long time ago I thought fasting was about doing something so God will bless you. This led to a string of disappointment because I never got what I wanted from him. After all, I deprived myself for God but He didn’t do his part. We must first understand that fasting is not to move God, it’s to help us align with the move he’s made. The bible says in Ephesians 1.3 (NKJV) Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ. God is always on our side, we need not deal with him on a transaction basis. We fast to tra
