Prayers as we end the year
by Bibi Babatunde-Ikotun
I can't believe this year is wrapping up already, we said Happy New Year last week not too long ago and now we're about to say Happy New Year again. We give God all the thanks for another year. You may be thinking, why should I be thankful after everything I experienced this year? And I know that feeling too well. Be that as it may, it is a biblical instruction to remain thankful. There's a lot to say thank you for.
1 Thessalonians 5:18 (Amplified Bible, Classic Edition)
Thank [God] in everything [no matter what the circumstances may be, be thankful and give thanks], for this is the will of God for you [who are] in Christ Jesus [the Revealer and Mediator of that will].
So yes, give thanks to the God of your salvation. Thanksgiving is good for your soul, it helps you remain grounded and grateful.
I love to plan stuff and I wanted to share some of the prayer points that God has laid on my heart for the coming year. I hope you're able to pray this prayer over yourself, your family and the people you care about.
Prayers for the new year
Prayer of Thanksgiving
Prayer for Clarity
Father Lord, I know that sometimes I get confused about what I am supposed to do in the new year or with my life. I pray that you open my eyes to see clearly all that you desire for me to do and to be. I pray that every cloud of confusion is replaced with clarity in Jesus' name. There is clarity in my career, my health, my finances, my ministry, my family and everything else that concerns me. Amen.
Prayer for Alignment
Father God, I know that your will is for many to come into the knowledge of your saving grace. I pray that in this new year, I am divinely aligned with your will for my nation and sphere of influence. All that you want to do in my area of influence, I pray that I am aligned with your move perfectly. If at any point I fall out of line, let the Holy Spirit prompt me to align back to your work and your will. Amen.
Prayer for Connection
Dear heavenly father, I pray that I am divinely connected to my purpose partners. God, I know that there are certain people that you've designed for me to do your will with, open my eyes to recognize them. The ones that are already in my life, cause me to see them and honour them. This year is my year of knowing you and serving you more, I pray that I am connected to people that will spur me to good works and vice versa.
Prayer for global healing
Dear God, thank you for seeing us through a pandemic. I pray that in this new year, the nations of the earth continue to heal from diseases, natural disasters, and every economic issue. I pray for healing over every continent in Jesus' name, amen.
Prayer of salvation for others
Dear God, I pray for the people that are yet to believe your gospel. I pray that as your sons and daughters continue to deploy the message of your grace, the hearts of man melt like wax to receive your love. I pray that the spiritually blind receive spiritual sight and it changes the story of their generation. Amen.
Prayer for direction and insights
I pray that in this new year, I have spiritual insight and direction like never before. My feet are directed because your word is my lamp. I do not stumble in all that I set out to do. I receive your leadership in every area of my life. My spirit is attuned to your Holy Spirit. Amen.
Prayer for Protection
Father God, I pray that as we leave this year to enter a new one. We are protected from evil and unreasonable men. That your hedge of protection is around me, my family and my loved ones. We will not end this year with sorrow nor would we start the new year in tears.
Prayer for consistency
Father God, I pray that in this new year my fire burns more for the things that please you. That it is not said of my life that I stopped burning for the things of your kingdom. I pray that the grace and leading to be consistent and diligent in bible study, prayer and fellowship rests upon me. I experience spiritual growth and endless joy in the faith. Amen.
Prayer for the persecuted
Father God, we pray for those experiencing persecution because of their faith all over the world. We pray that they do not lose the joy of their salvation. That even in difficult situations, they receive boldness like Stephen to pray for the salvation of those who persecute them. We pray that there are opportunities for them to keep sharing the salvation of the Lord Jesus Christ. Amen.
I pray that you begin to see the answers to these prayers before this year run out in Jesus' name. Amen!
