Being Christian during the #EndSarsProtests in Nigeria

Being Christian during the #EndSarsProtests in Nigeria by Toyosi Adegunle I'm still angry, pained, and numb, but I’m glad that, for once: I see the reality of hope for Nigeria I see that change is possible and realistic in Nigeria  I see that we don’t actually hate ourselves like we’ve been told, we really love one another and will fight for one another with all we’ve got. I see the unity of faith that the Bible speaks about. Many believers came together for prayers, prayer walks, protests and it was beautiful to watch.  I see the love and joy of the Holy ghost in many people who have been hurt by SARS officials but did not hesitate to still invest their energy and voice in speaking and fighting against it. I see that Nigerian youths aren't lazy after all. What do you see?  To be very honest, the last two weeks have been pretty rough for me and most times, I often try to picture it all in my head again for better comprehension, but it's a lot to take in.  Hey! Enough...

Why should christians fast?

Why should Christians fast? by Toyosi Adegunle A lot of people have a wrong perception of fasting, how and why it's done. For some, it is just a ritual, and many other reasons deduced based on background and upbringing. Irrespective of our preconceptions about fasting, Jesus remains the perfect example for anything and everything, including fasting.  Luke 4:1-2 , “Then Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan River. He was led by the Spirit in the wilderness, where he was tempted by the devil for forty days. Jesus ate nothing all that time and became very hungry”.  After Jesus was baptized by John the Baptist, he was full of the power of the Holy Spirit. This tells you that when you fast with your heart in tune with God and truthfully, your spirit, soul and body will be connected and you will be able to focus better and pray better.  Our spirits, souls, and bodies are intimately connected. Fasting is a spiritual habit that involves learning to discipline y...

What does it mean to be complete in Christ?

What does it mean to be complete in Christ? When you look at yourself, what do you see? Do you see someone who is imperfect and lacking in many areas? Do you sometimes find yourself thinking these thoughts? God is angry with me. I’m too dirty and damaged for Him to accept me. Why would God want to be with me when I’m a hot mess. Let me give you a secret, it doesn't matter how you feel or what you think. All that matters is what God has said in His word. His word says you are Complete in Christ! You are whole! Nothing missing, nothing lost, nothing broken! This is not by your deeds or something you are on your own. This is because you're in Christ!  Are you in Christ? Colossians 2:9-10 (NKJV) For in Him dwells all the fullness of the Godhead [a]bodily; 10 and you are complete in Him, who is the head of all [b]principality and power. Colossians 2:9-10 (TPT) For he is the complete fullness of deity living in human form. 10 And our own completeness is now found in him . We are co...

The importance of honour

The importance of honour  by Toyosi Adegunle Hey, fam! I hope you are well and in good health, give me 10 minutes of your time, let's talk about honour. Merriam Webster dictionary defines honour as respect that is given to someone who is admired.  1 Peter 2:17a says to "honour all people".  The emphasis here is on ALL . Simply put, as a believer, it is very necessary for you to learn how to honour everyone - fellow believers and church leaders, both young and old, friends or not, acquaintances or not. I attended a campus fellowship where honour is a big deal. We had student pastors, student executives who led several departments, and sometimes, the departmental coordinator(s) may be younger in age, and level at school and this is why it was mostly hard for some people to submit and still honour them. In a situation where your student pastor is way younger than you are and is probably in 300 level and you're about to graduate, or your fellow church department team mem...

Is God's word outdated?

Is God's word outdated? by Toyosi Adegunle The world has changed. This is no news. Almost every day we wake up to new ideologies, inventions, philosophies, models of business, and even new words. With all of these going on, it is very easy for us to be swayed and tossed about as believers if we do not have a firm understanding of who we are and the God we're called to serve. The world might change daily but the one who made the world out of nothingness and spoke every creature into life remains the same. God remains the same, He never changes and His standards equally remain unchanging. Christianity is not a free-thinking society. It's not a place where you can choose to update the Bible or God's standards with selfish and societal-constructed ideologies, styles, and standards. It's not a place where you decide what part of the Bible to believe and act and what another part to leave out. It's not a place where you choose to obey God when it suits your selfish pl...

Prayers to know God's purpose over your life

Prayers to know God's purpose over your life  by Bibi Babatunde-Ikotun Hi everyone, welcome back to my blog. It's good to have you here and I love the fact that you keep coming back every week. May God bless you and enlarge your coast. So today, I will be sharing some prayer points about coming into purpose with you. If you've followed me for a while now, you'd know that I'm passionate for every child of God to come into God's purpose for their life. With the consistent hustle and bustle of this world, finding purpose may be the last thing on our mind. I have also conversed with people that have become so uninterested in finding purpose because of the way it has been presented to them in the time past. I am a big advocate of seeking God and being submitted to Him, He will definitely direct your path into purpose. Here are 6 prayer points to help you know God's will for your life 1 Thessalonians 5:18 (NIV) give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s w...

4 Practical Ways to Not Conform to this World

4 Practical Ways to Not Conform to this World by Toyosi Adegunle Have you ever thought about how and why you seem to take on the culture of someone or a particular area as soon as you feel relaxed? Well, I have, because some of us are quick to adapt to behaviours, cultures as well as take on new values. Sometimes, it’s good, most times, it’s not. Still in the same line of thought, living in a new country or environment can shapen your personality, behaviour or mindset. No matter how much you seem to blend in, you will not always be comfortable because it isn’t really home. As a believer, one thing you need to pay close attention to is adaptability and conformity to seemingly "right" but wordly values and standards. By now, you should know that the devil always does the exact opposite of the word of God, hence his inspired-values are nowhere near God’s standards. Romans 12:2 (‭NKJV‬‬). “And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, th...

How do I know God loves me?

How do I know God loves me? by Toyosi Adegunle Trust me, almost every believer at some point in their journey with God has asked this same question and truly wondered and sought for proof that they are loved by God.  We are often told by friends, family, songs, movies, pictures, and mostly Preachers that “God loves you”. Sometimes, it can just start to look like theory, especially in difficult times where you aren’t actually 'seeing’ or experiencing the love of God. Where is His love then? How do you know God loves you? In those moments when you are overwhelmed, sad, weak, you probably just lost your job or loved one, you’re not where you are supposed to be, you don’t have all that you wish for, you are struggling with a habit that you really want to stop, you had a really rough day, you are battling an ailment or sickness, things aren’t going well for you, you pray so hard, yet things are not working fine and you just have one question on your mind - “does God really love me...
