High sounding nonsense

High sounding nonsense

Hello everyone, welcome back to my blog. I love you and I need you to survive. Stay bubbling in the Holy Ghost! You are seated in high places above principalities and powers, that’s your position in Christ. Stay with me on today’s topic, you will like it. Kindly read and let me know your thoughts.

Colossians 2:8 (NLT) Don't let anyone capture you with empty philosophies and high-sounding nonsense that come from human thinking and from the spiritual powers of this world, rather than from Christ.

The book of Paul to the people of Colossae is such an interesting book. I like it because it is very applicable to current times. Times were everything that is unscriptural can easy pass as the way to go for believers. They are so subtle; it takes a discerning spirit to catch it. These times were churches are doing more of motivational teaching and teaching the word of God. This period of being “woke” and being afraid to speak the truth because you can be attacked on social media. Newsflash fellow believers, we are not here to be intellectuals or try to place our human reasoning above the things of God. We are bible believers first before anything else. We look at issues and use our bible lens to filter it before we assimilate it into our minds/heart.

Proverbs 4:23 (NIV) Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.

Intellectualism is very seductive. To divert, I always find it admirable when I see people who are extremely wealthy but still have faith in Jesus. You know sometimes, it is a need that keeps some Christians close to God. A perfect example will be Christians that relocate from a developing country to a developed one. You begin to realise that you don’t have to fast and pray because the government will provide your basic needs. You realise that the reason why you were encouraged to go to church was easily fixed by a system that works. You begin to converse with people and soon after, you start believing that God is a myth. You start going with intellectual talks that promotes science over the story of creation you learnt as a child in Sunday school.

I always say this, the more educated you get the easier it is to lose faith in Jesus. Instead of applying faith, you can easily begin to apply logic to situations. This is why I advocate for the gospel not false doctrines that tell you to do things to be accepted by God. When you catch the revelation that God loves you without your input or participation and nothing you can do can separate you from His love, it helps you stay rooted in God.  Strive to hear messages about His unconditional love that isn’t insecure. His love is not going anywhere.

I will be dropping some popular phrases that even we Christians sometimes use as a form of encouragement. It sounds very logical almost scriptural but when you put it in line of the truth (Jesus), it doesn’t make any sense. These are what I  call high sounding nonsense.

Heaven helps those who help themselves
This can be found in the book of Hezekiah 4:1. Did you just check to see if there’s a book of Hezekiah, LOL? Yes, that is a non-existent book of the bible.  This phrase emphasis more on self-help than God help. Don’t get me wrong, I am not saying we shouldn’t apply to jobs, start businesses, study our books and use the sense God has given us. We should absolutely do these things, however; we should never be more focused on our efforts than God’s might. We should never get to that place where we forsake prayers, bible study and a relationship with God because we are chasing after money. Money that you may end up saying “only my strength and wisdom led to the acquisition of my wealth”. God’s help is not conditional on what you have done to help yourself, He does not meet you halfway. You have been blessed already, start seeking wisdom to see the manifestations of the blessings.

Ephesians 1:3 (TPT) Every spiritual blessing in the heavenly realm has already been lavished upon us as a love gift from our wonderful heavenly Father, the Father of our Lord Jesus—all because he sees us wrapped into Christ. This is why we celebrate him[a] with all our hearts!

Experience is the best teacher

Let us flip to the book of…I’m just kidding. Experience is a teacher but it is not the best teacher. The Holy Spirit whom you received as the seal of your salvation is the best teacher you can ever have. In fact, you have bragging rights in the world because you have the best teacher with you 24 hours 7 days a week. When we use experience as the best teacher, it dangerous. I have heard people who use experience to misjudge who God is. For example, they committed a sin and something happened to them. They use that experience to say God is punishing them and they teach that to people around them. Lol, God is not punishing you for your sins! He expended all His wrath and punishment of sins on Jesus. The devil tries to take advantage of those times we make a mistake and use it for his advantage. His advantage in the sense that he wants you to have a false view of who God is. Stop letting experience teach you more than the Holy Spirit.

1 John 2:27 (TLB) But you have received the Holy Spirit, and he lives within you, in your hearts, so that you don’t need anyone to teach you what is right. For he teaches you all things, and he is the Truth, and no liar; and so, just as he has said, you must live in Christ, never to depart from him.

Just follow your heart

This is a very interesting one. It sounds so sweet, innocent and “realistic”, LOL. Do you know how powerful your mind is? This is the mind that has been with you since when you were a sinner before you gave your life to Christ. This same mind, is the one that needs constant renewing so you don’t continue to succumb easily to sin. This same mind is the place that assimilates all things in the environment easily, where strongholds are formed. Please, do not follow your heart. Follow the scriptures, follow what the holy spirit says. The longer you are exposed to something, the easier it is to become normal in your mind.

Jeremiah 17:9 (AMPC) The heart is deceitful above all things, and it is exceedingly perverse and corrupt and severely, mortally sick! Who can know it [perceive, understand, be acquainted with his own heart and mind]?

God gives and takes away

I know many people will argue with me about this one because of the story of Job. Did Job get to read the book of Job? No! Did he see how everything turned out? No! God does not give and take away. The devil is the one who took away Job’s children, health and wealth. Now that we are new testament believers, we should not subscribe to that line of thought. The spirit of God pulsates through our human bodies. As Christ is, so are we in this world. Each time the devil tries to take from you, stand in your authority as gods being and tell Him to go. He will keep trying but remind Him that you are not his mate. When people pass on, don’t try to encourage them with “the Lord gives and takes away”, encourage them with the hope of seeing their loved ones again.  Always use this verse below to understand who God is, He a giver.

John 10:10 (TPT) A thief has only one thing in mind—he wants to steal, slaughter, [a] and destroy. But I have come to give you everything in abundance, [b] more than you expect[c]—life in its fullness until you overflow!

God won’t give you more than you can handle

This is a half-truth even though it is in the scriptures. If you go through life believing this, your faith may shake when you are faced with tough situations. How will you learn how to trust God with your whole heart or ask Him for help if you are not faced with a situation that you can’t handle. I can count many things that I have gone through that I knew I absolutely could not handle without God being on my side. And I know some of us are struggling with financial issues, peer pressure, addictions, relationship issues or even mental health illness. We will all need help at some stage in our lives. Be rest assured that you won’t go through these hard times alone, God will be by your side through every step. He is your strength and comfort. In the end, you’d see why you went through the situation and what it birthed in you.

Isaiah 43:2 (NIV) When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze.

God gives the hardest battle(s) to His Generals

LOL, when I heard this I laughed. There is nothing about you that moves God or impresses Him or leads Him to choose you for seasons (I choose not to call them battles). Many times we fight and struggle with God when He gives us something that we think is a battle. We may even start by being rebellious and ask “God, why me”? “After all, I have done for you, why are you making me go through this?” God takes you just the way you are, your past, your fears and your insecurities, and puts you through seasons that will mould you into who He wants you to be. Those areas that you try to cover up with faux-perfection, God works through it with you. In the end, you become better. From glory to glory. No matter what season you are in, understand that you are not fighting for victory. Jesus also overcame the world on our behalf, we fight from victory. When you know that you are victorious, this helps you switch perspective in the journey of life.

1 Corinthians 15:57 (TPT) But we thank God for giving us the victory as conquerors through our Lord Jesus, the Anointed One

I really hope this has encouraged someone out there to begin to judge things through the lens of Christ. Movies, TV shows and entertainment, in general, are feeding us a lot of false narrative about God that is very subtle. Sometimes pastors on the pulpit use their life experience to teach us about who God is. I’m not saying its totally bad, I am saying it is on us as believers to filter everything that is thrown at us through the lens of Christ. Many of these things are introduced to our mind in a subtle nature if we don’t discern we may not even notice it.

Stay woke in the Holy Ghost!

Stay woke in Scriptures!

Test every spirit (1 John 4:1-6)

With love,
Bibi

What does it mean to be complete in Christ?

What does it mean to be complete in Christ? When you look at yourself, what do you see? Do you see someone who is imperfect and lacking in many areas? Do you sometimes find yourself thinking these thoughts? God is angry with me. I’m too dirty and damaged for Him to accept me. Why would God want to be with me when I’m a hot mess. Let me give you a secret, it doesn't matter how you feel or what you think. All that matters is what God has said in His word. His word says you are Complete in Christ! You are whole! Nothing missing, nothing lost, nothing broken! This is not by your deeds or something you are on your own. This is because you're in Christ!  Are you in Christ? Colossians 2:9-10 (NKJV) For in Him dwells all the fullness of the Godhead [a]bodily; 10 and you are complete in Him, who is the head of all [b]principality and power. Colossians 2:9-10 (TPT) For he is the complete fullness of deity living in human form. 10 And our own completeness is now found in him . We are co

Do’s and Don’ts of a spiritual fast

Do’s and Don’ts of a spiritual fast  By Bibi Babatunde-Ikotun Hello, welcome to my blog. If you clicked on this link it’s either you’re fasting already or are planning to fast. The good thing is you’re planning to have an effective fast by seeking all the information you can get on this. I won’t waste much of your time and I’ll get into it. Don’ts of fasting -  Have a Transactional mindset : A long time ago I thought fasting was about doing something so God will bless you. This led to a string of disappointment because I never got what I wanted from him. After all, I deprived myself for God but He didn’t do his part. We must first understand that fasting is not to move God, it’s to help us align with the move he’s made. The bible says in Ephesians 1.3 (NKJV) Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ. God is always on our side, we need not deal with him on a transaction basis. We fast to tra
