Today’s post is going to be short and sweet, lol. I know you’ve probably heard your pastor say that and it wasn’t indeed short and sweet. See, we can’t limit the move of the spirit when it comes to these things. Just stay with me, I trust you will learn a thing or two at the very end.

Who has this happened to before? You may just be sitting down, having a good time or maybe even in church then the devil floods your mind with extremely evil thoughts. It takes you by surprise? What kind of evil thought is this? Where is it coming from? Sometimes it can be thoughts about ending up on the hospital bed in an accident or even getting a divorce. For your information, they are absolutely not your thoughts or the thoughts of the Holy Spirit that dwells in you. They are from the devil! He is the king of playing tricks and mind games because he has no power compared to us believers.

Listen, when we hear “the weapons of our warfare are not carnal” the first thing that comes to mind is spiritual warfare. We begin to enter into war mode and start praying some questionable prayers such as die, die, die by fire. But first, you should know that strongholds are mindsets/thoughts formed by experiences or placed in our minds by the devil himself. Examples can include a) Nobody is successful in my lineage so who am I to be successful b) My father cheated on my mother numerous times so it's only fair for me to end up married to a serial cheat c) Nobody has ever graduated with a first-class in this course, let me do my best to graduate with whatever I can d) Life is going to sweet these days that means something bad is around the corner, I should never be truly happy for long periods in life.

Apostle Paul has told us what to do when these thoughts come up in the verse below:

2 Corinthians 10:3-5 (NKJV) For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh. 4 For the weapons of our warfare are not [a]carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, 5 casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ.

We all know that the devil is constantly moving, looking for who to pounce on (John 10:10). One of His instrument is fear! He tries to put fear in your heart that drives you into a frenzy. When you are in a frenzy, it is easier for him to do more damage. For every thought that comes to your mind that is of the devil, you capture, like prisoners of war and insist that it bows in obedience to Christ.

Practical ways to stop negative thoughts:

  • Cast it down through the word of God: The bible as you see it is not an ordinary book, you have to read it out loud for your ears and your spirit man to hear it. It is the book that contains everything that God has to say about you. Each time those evil thoughts flood your mind, respond with the word of God. Personalize these verses like I've done below.

Jeremiah 29:11 (NIV) For I know the plans I have for you Bibi,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you Bibi and not to harm you Bibi, plans to give you Bibi a hope and a future.

2 Timothy 1:7 (NKJV) For God has not given Bibi a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.

2 Corinthians 9:8 (AMPC) And God is able to make all grace (every favor and [c]earthly blessing) come to Bibi in abundance, so that Bibi may always and under all circumstances and whatever the need [d]be self-sufficient [possessing enough to require no aid or support and furnished in abundance for every good work and charitable donation].

There are so many other scriptures to help you stand in faith and cast down every thought that is not of God towards you. This also includes words of negative prophecies from prophets, pastors and other men of God over your life. Any prophecy that does not build, encourage or comfort you must be cast down because it is demonic. See 1 Corinthians 14:3 to learn more.

  • Cast it down through praying in tongues: In prayers, those things scare you become very small and insignificant. You have to pray in the spirit at least 15 minutes a day. It is in prayers that your spirit man connects with the holy spirit. The person that prays in tongues edifies his or herself (1 Corinthians 14:4a). What does it mean to be edified? It means to enlighten or uplift or build yourself. The more enlightened you are, the lesser the effect of evil thoughts.

1 Thessalonians 5:17 (TPT) Make your life a prayer.

  • Cast it down through positive affirmations and words: As a believer, you have the power to call things forth from every corner of the earth. This is who you are in Christ. The words that you speak are not casual, they are powerful. Every time those thoughts come to your mind you begin to Speak life to counter every evil thought:

  1. It is well with me
  2. I am never at a disadvantage
  3. My life is powered by the Holy Ghost
  4. God has great plans for me
  5. I live and move in the supernatural
  6. I can never be sick
  7. I can never be broke
  8. My marriage is successful
  9. My children are whole
  10. It is well with my business/career
  11. I am empowered by the Holy Ghost
  12. Everything I do is successful
  13. I am a lender to nations
  14. I call forth all good things from all corners of the earth
  15. I am highly favoured by all men
Proverbs 18:21a (KJV) Death and life are in the power of the tongue:

Just because I promised it will be a short post, I will stop here for today. Thank you so much for reading to the very end, I am sure you have learnt a thing or two. You may even extend these to evil and negative words people say to and about you. I don’t care if you think they are right, what matter is God’s thoughts about you. Stay with His words not your experiences.

Also, be intentional about the things you feed your mind. If you are always exposed to social media pages that dwell on negativity, be careful! The more you feed your mind, the more resource you give the devil. All the stories and content that highlights infidelity, wickedness, perversion and the likes are useless to the believer. If it doesn’t edify you, it will only serve as a source to attack your mind. Be intentional about all the things you absorb into your mind.

Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it proverbs 4:23

With love,
Bibi

  1. Very true. This thought matter. Even silly drama we imagine by ourselves in, for examplee heartbreak, husband leaving and not coming back, parents fighting...these are subtle tricks the enemy uses to get us to put fear subconsciously in our heart after we've finished playing "drama" by imagining if the situation happened to us. Thankyou Bibz

  2. Thank you for sharing Bibi. This post was so instructive. The enemy is such a diligent liar and his attempts are aimed at seeding our hearts with evil thoughts.

But we are more than victorious! We have God's ability on our in side to recognize his lies and make them submit to the structure of life shaped by Christ.

  6. Thank you Bibi. I remember our youth Pastor sharing these same points with us years ago in youth church. It's one of the things I feel as believers we need to be reminded of over and over again especially in these times.

Do’s and Don’ts of a spiritual fast

Do’s and Don’ts of a spiritual fast  By Bibi Babatunde-Ikotun Hello, welcome to my blog. If you clicked on this link it’s either you’re fasting already or are planning to fast. The good thing is you’re planning to have an effective fast by seeking all the information you can get on this. I won’t waste much of your time and I’ll get into it. Don’ts of fasting -  Have a Transactional mindset : A long time ago I thought fasting was about doing something so God will bless you. This led to a string of disappointment because I never got what I wanted from him. After all, I deprived myself for God but He didn’t do his part. We must first understand that fasting is not to move God, it’s to help us align with the move he’s made. The bible says in Ephesians 1.3 (NKJV) Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ. God is always on our side, we need not deal with him on a transaction basis. We fast to tra

What does it mean to be complete in Christ?

What does it mean to be complete in Christ? When you look at yourself, what do you see? Do you see someone who is imperfect and lacking in many areas? Do you sometimes find yourself thinking these thoughts? God is angry with me. I’m too dirty and damaged for Him to accept me. Why would God want to be with me when I’m a hot mess. Let me give you a secret, it doesn't matter how you feel or what you think. All that matters is what God has said in His word. His word says you are Complete in Christ! You are whole! Nothing missing, nothing lost, nothing broken! This is not by your deeds or something you are on your own. This is because you're in Christ!  Are you in Christ? Colossians 2:9-10 (NKJV) For in Him dwells all the fullness of the Godhead [a]bodily; 10 and you are complete in Him, who is the head of all [b]principality and power. Colossians 2:9-10 (TPT) For he is the complete fullness of deity living in human form. 10 And our own completeness is now found in him . We are co

Prayers to know God's purpose over your life

Prayers to know God's purpose over your life  by Bibi Babatunde-Ikotun Hi everyone, welcome back to my blog. It's good to have you here and I love the fact that you keep coming back every week. May God bless you and enlarge your coast. So today, I will be sharing some prayer points about coming into purpose with you. If you've followed me for a while now, you'd know that I'm passionate for every child of God to come into God's purpose for their life. With the consistent hustle and bustle of this world, finding purpose may be the last thing on our mind. I have also conversed with people that have become so uninterested in finding purpose because of the way it has been presented to them in the time past. I am a big advocate of seeking God and being submitted to Him, He will definitely direct your path into purpose. Here are 6 prayer points to help you know God's will for your life 1 Thessalonians 5:18 (NIV) give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s w
