Christ is our sabbath, Christ is our rest!

Christ is our sabbath, Christ is our rest!

by Toyosi Adegunle

Busyness and Sin have one thing in common - distraction, they both distract you from God. Ever gotten really busy to the point where you become frustrated at the fact that you have lost yourself to both the necessary and unnecessary workload that you are saddled with?

Life comes at us really fast. If you don't take charge and put control over work, hobbies, passion and a host of other seemingly good harmless commitments, you may lose sight and touch with times and seasons of your life that are very important.

I once read a plan on YouVersion and the author termed this type of busy as ‘Crazy Busy’ - the type of busyness where you can’t exactly pinpoint the things that you are doing or maybe you can, but you are just always doing a lot and you eventually get so tired that you can’t focus on the things that truly matter.

First of all, rest

Yes, rest. I have been (and maybe I’m still) that person who believes somewhere in the corner of their heart that they have to work really hard, grind, hustle and put in a lot of work to succeed. There is a thin line between the need to work hard and the inability to trust God to make things work out for you. This is why you mostly do a lot of things and you lose sight of God’s abundance, peace, rest and even miss out on the life God wants for you to live because you are operating in a world and space of busyness where you are easily distracted.

Busyness is a cycle of life without peace and rest - no time to yourself, no time to fellowship, no time to really live the life God has planned for you because you're invested in a lot of other things. You need to embrace rest and choose your battles wisely. Battles here don't equate to war or disorder, it simply means choosing the things that you can handle at a time.

There was a period in my life where I took on lots of jobs, accepted to help people with things that were not exactly convenient for me, things that had the potential to land me in trouble all because I was trying to help, get my bills paid and feel like I'm doing something. Seek God before making decisions in your life - pray before accepting any ‘help’ or job offer, before joining that team, before pursuing that hobby. It doesn't mean that these things are not good in themselves, it just really may not be what God wants for you at that period.

‭‭Matthew‬ ‭11:28-30‬ ‭(NKJV‬‬) “Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”

Rest in the power, abundance and sustenance of God. He is more than able to take care of you and your needs. The reality of your life at this moment may not match this declaration but it is the truth I need you to take away after reading this. God is capable of carrying you on his shoulders for as long as you can think of. Don't do anything out of fear or pressure because you feel like you will not be relevant or successful if you don’t.

‭‭Romans‬ ‭12:2‬ (‭NKJV‬‬) “And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.”

Break Busy

Pray, seek God, declutter your life and bring yourself out of everything that you shouldn't be involved in. Make space for the things that God has called you to, the life God has set for you, the plans that God has for you. This is not a call to be complacent with work or life but a call to:

  • ascertain the things that God would have you do per time and not dabble in a host of unnecessary things for you
  • learn to rely on God and not your understanding, works, abilities and wisdom.

As you consider breaking busy in your life, and stop saying yes to everything and everyone, and start asking God for direction on everything you set out to do in life, you will experience peace, rest and find it easier to navigate life.

Have you ever been crazy busy at some point in your life? How did you break it?

Do’s and Don’ts of a spiritual fast

Do’s and Don’ts of a spiritual fast  By Bibi Babatunde-Ikotun Hello, welcome to my blog. If you clicked on this link it’s either you’re fasting already or are planning to fast. The good thing is you’re planning to have an effective fast by seeking all the information you can get on this. I won’t waste much of your time and I’ll get into it. Don’ts of fasting -  Have a Transactional mindset : A long time ago I thought fasting was about doing something so God will bless you. This led to a string of disappointment because I never got what I wanted from him. After all, I deprived myself for God but He didn’t do his part. We must first understand that fasting is not to move God, it’s to help us align with the move he’s made. The bible says in Ephesians 1.3 (NKJV) Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ. God is always on our side, we need not deal with him on a transaction basis. We fast to tra

What does it mean to be complete in Christ?

What does it mean to be complete in Christ? When you look at yourself, what do you see? Do you see someone who is imperfect and lacking in many areas? Do you sometimes find yourself thinking these thoughts? God is angry with me. I’m too dirty and damaged for Him to accept me. Why would God want to be with me when I’m a hot mess. Let me give you a secret, it doesn't matter how you feel or what you think. All that matters is what God has said in His word. His word says you are Complete in Christ! You are whole! Nothing missing, nothing lost, nothing broken! This is not by your deeds or something you are on your own. This is because you're in Christ!  Are you in Christ? Colossians 2:9-10 (NKJV) For in Him dwells all the fullness of the Godhead [a]bodily; 10 and you are complete in Him, who is the head of all [b]principality and power. Colossians 2:9-10 (TPT) For he is the complete fullness of deity living in human form. 10 And our own completeness is now found in him . We are co

Prayers to know God's purpose over your life

Prayers to know God's purpose over your life  by Bibi Babatunde-Ikotun Hi everyone, welcome back to my blog. It's good to have you here and I love the fact that you keep coming back every week. May God bless you and enlarge your coast. So today, I will be sharing some prayer points about coming into purpose with you. If you've followed me for a while now, you'd know that I'm passionate for every child of God to come into God's purpose for their life. With the consistent hustle and bustle of this world, finding purpose may be the last thing on our mind. I have also conversed with people that have become so uninterested in finding purpose because of the way it has been presented to them in the time past. I am a big advocate of seeking God and being submitted to Him, He will definitely direct your path into purpose. Here are 6 prayer points to help you know God's will for your life 1 Thessalonians 5:18 (NIV) give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s w
