How to Improve your Spiritual health(Part 1)

How to Improve your Spiritual health(Part 1)

by Toyosi Adegunle

I like to think of growth as a necessity and the foundation of efforts on anything. The reason you invest so much time and energy in anything is that you want to grow. As believers, growth is a very important element on our journey with Christ. It is the will of God that you develop your spiritual stamina beautifully being the best version of yourself - being like Christ.

5 Pillars of spiritual growth

The word of God

Your Bible is and should be your best friend. This is because it is one of the major ways to grow in the knowledge of God and the truth. The Bible has answers to questions, provides wisdom, knowledge and also serves as a template for your journey as a believer. It is important to learn how to consistently study the Bible and meditate on it regardless of the form you choose to use - Hardcopy or Bible Apps - the most important thing is that you are studying, consistently with the right motive. Your motive for studying the word of God should be that you want to know more about God and the believers’ lifestyle.
Studying the word is great but studying and doing the word of God is even greater.  Your life is enriched by what you consume.

What the Bible says about the word of God:

“As newborn babes, desire the pure milk of the word, that you may grow thereby”    ‭‭I Peter‬ ‭2:2‬ ‭NKJV‬‬
“But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.” ‭‭James‬ ‭1:22‬ ‭NKJV‬‬
“And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God;” ‭‭Ephesians‬ ‭6:17‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

Prayer

Simply put, prayer is communication between you and God. Communication is the successful exchange of information between two or more people. In this case, it's you and God simply catching up. Growing up, I had a very complicated definition and perception of prayer - it felt like rocket science. It felt like something hard, felt like I had to shut down/out activities and people because I wanted to pray. I don't know if this makes sense but I concluded that it was born out of my perception of God. I rarely saw him as a Loving Father who just wants to talk to his baby and vice versa.

Prayer is much more easier to do when you:

Don't see it as a burden or hardcore routine.
See it as a part of your lifestyle and routine.
Think of it as a means to catch up with someone you love and someone that loves you.

What the word of God says about Prayer:

“pray without ceasing, ” ‭‭I Thessalonians‬ ‭5:17‬ ‭NKJV‬‬
“Therefore I say to you, whatever things you ask when you pray, believe that you receive them, and you will have them.” ‭‭Mark‬ ‭11:24‬ ‭NKJV‬‬
“Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.” ‭‭Romans‬ ‭8:26‬ ‭NKJV‬‬
“Therefore pray to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest.” ‭‭Matthew‬ ‭9:38‬ ‭NKJV‬‬
“Take heed, watch and pray; for you do not know when the time is.” ‭‭Mark‬ ‭13:33‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

I could go on and on to share what the word of God says about studying, meditating, praying and lots more. The list is endless. However, I've got 3 more pillars to share with you. I'll do so in the next post (Promise✨), but let's be practical with the word and prayer this week, shall we?

Share in the comment section how you would improve your spiritual growth this week with the little I have shared about the word and prayer? What were you doing wrongly (if any)? What can you do better? What are you not sure of?

What does it mean to be complete in Christ?

What does it mean to be complete in Christ? When you look at yourself, what do you see? Do you see someone who is imperfect and lacking in many areas? Do you sometimes find yourself thinking these thoughts? God is angry with me. I’m too dirty and damaged for Him to accept me. Why would God want to be with me when I’m a hot mess. Let me give you a secret, it doesn't matter how you feel or what you think. All that matters is what God has said in His word. His word says you are Complete in Christ! You are whole! Nothing missing, nothing lost, nothing broken! This is not by your deeds or something you are on your own. This is because you're in Christ!  Are you in Christ? Colossians 2:9-10 (NKJV) For in Him dwells all the fullness of the Godhead [a]bodily; 10 and you are complete in Him, who is the head of all [b]principality and power. Colossians 2:9-10 (TPT) For he is the complete fullness of deity living in human form. 10 And our own completeness is now found in him . We are co

Do’s and Don’ts of a spiritual fast

Do’s and Don’ts of a spiritual fast  By Bibi Babatunde-Ikotun Hello, welcome to my blog. If you clicked on this link it’s either you’re fasting already or are planning to fast. The good thing is you’re planning to have an effective fast by seeking all the information you can get on this. I won’t waste much of your time and I’ll get into it. Don’ts of fasting -  Have a Transactional mindset : A long time ago I thought fasting was about doing something so God will bless you. This led to a string of disappointment because I never got what I wanted from him. After all, I deprived myself for God but He didn’t do his part. We must first understand that fasting is not to move God, it’s to help us align with the move he’s made. The bible says in Ephesians 1.3 (NKJV) Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ. God is always on our side, we need not deal with him on a transaction basis. We fast to tra
